ZEC to continue using manual system
The aspiring Chief Justice candidate and Zimbabwe Electoral Commission chairperson Rita Makarau, has said that Zimbabwe will continue to use the manual voter registration system as it has not acquired the resources needed to implement the biometric system.
In February 2016, the commission announced that it would role out the biometric voter registration system in preparation of the 2018 elections. Although this system would not on its own solve the problems faced by the commission it would have at least played a role in transparency of the whole process. Lessons can be learnt from Zambia which used the system in 2015.
Makarau however, has said that the tender is still open for those with resources to partner with the commission in a bid to set up the BVR system. The tender is open up to Tuesday 17th January 2017.
