ZINASU, ZICOSU leadership face expulsion
Leaders of the Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU)and the Zimbabwe Congress of Students Union (ZICOSU) will soon be sent packing after it emerged that most of them are now ‘grandfathers’ who have since completed their studies and left institutions of higher learning years back but are still clinging on to power.
The revelations came out today on the sidelines of a press conference where Youth Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Minister Patrick Zhuwao was speaking about the Campus Community Foundation after a student from the Midlands State University queried on why most government projects were targeting community based youths while isolating college based youths.
In response Zhuwao told the student that his ministry could not engage all the youths individually but only did so through proper structures like negotiating with universities students organisations.
However the MSU student pressed further and in the process opened a can of worms.
“But minister how is that possible considering that most of the leaders in both ZICOSU and ZINASU are graduands who have since left college and are using the organs to peddle their own agenda?,” he queried.
The statement frustrated Zhuwao who ordered the newly elected Zimbabwe Youth Council to immediately investigate the allegations and avail evidence which would necessitate the dismissal of the unions incumbent leadership.
“This is the problem with the student councils, they are not concentrating on the core business affecting the students and are busy meddling in political issues.May I have the Zimbabwe youth Council look into the matter and give me the relevant details as soon as possible so that proper action will be taken,”said Zhuwao.
