Zimbabwe’s long time ruler, President Robert Mugabe’s daughter, Bona who is married to the recently appointed Air Zimbabwe chief operating officer, Simba Chikore is said to have bought into Tourism and Hospitality minister Walter Mzembi, who is also one of the supreme leader’s blue eyed boys’ ailing supermarket in Masvingo city.
According to sources , Bona and her beau,Chikore, bought into the struggling BW supermarket which is situated opposite South African retail giant, Pick and Pay the ancient city using a company called SIMRAC Enterprises .The supermarket had been struggling to compete with Pick and Pay under Mzembi’s stewardship .
The sources point out to the fact that never in the history of the city has two Zanu PF major events been held in the city in a space of a year. This is seen as an attempt by the first family to shore up the couples fledgling foray into the business sector.
“It is unprecedented that the 21st February movement is held in Masvingo and then the National Peoples Conference is held in Masvingo , all in the same year .this is an attempt to shore up Bona’s business interests in the city and the region”.
Asked about which other ventures the couple have in the region , the sources said that they had a company called SIMRAC ,which had been given a permit to import grain to distribute maize in the region which is perennially known to dry and arid and thus drought prone.
SIMRAC Enterprises, along with five other companies was given permits on the 18th of January to import and distribute maize as part of the drought mitigation policy by the government. The said company was given the go ahead to import 2000 metric tonnes from South Africa , permit number 18840 for distribution in areas such as Ngundu,Insiza , Chivi, Shurugwi and Mberengwa among other areas in the southern region
“To add meat to the matter, the said supermarket is called SIMRAC and it is said to be doing quite well unlike during the Mzembi era” said the source. The first lady, Dr Grace Mugabe has been at the forefront of fundraising efforts for the National People’s Conference, most recently holding a dinner in Harare .This is seen as an attempt to avoid making the event a flop since the party is said to be in doldrums financially thereby solidifying the Chikores holdings in the region
Media reports also suggest that the first son,Robert Jnr approached the BANc ABC seeking the modalities of grain importation.
President Mugabe has been on record hailing Mzembi as his best minister since he spearheaded the hosting of the United Nation World Tourism Organisation ,UNTWO ,summit jointly hosted by Zimbabwe and Zambia hence it would be prudent for Bona to do business with him.Mzembi on his part has remained largely untainted by the current corruption scandals currently engulfing Mugabe’s blue eyed brigade like Prof Jonathan Moyo and Savior Kasukuwere
